Χ¦Χ Both Tom Cawley and Joshua Blackmore are from Derby but they met in London where Tom was one of Josh's tutors at the Royal Academy of Music. Curios' first CD "Hidden" was nominated as Album of the Year in the 2007 BBC Jazz Awards.

Χ¦Χ Curios, Tom Cawley on piano, Joshua Blackmore on drums and Sam Burgess on double bass, were described by Time Out Magazine as “state–of–the–art piano trio music” and since their formation in 2006 have been garnering rave reviews for music that draws on romantic classical music as much as modern jazz.
Χ¦Χ Formed in 2006 by pianist and composer Cawley, the distinctive sound of Curios owes all to the group’s chemistry and the unrivalled interplay between the musicians. Χ¦Χ Their debut album Hidden made a startling impact on the jazz scene, winning a nomination as Best Album in the BBC Jazz Awards and reaching the top five in both the HMV and Radio 3 Jazz Charts. MOJO described the record as “an extraordinary collection of deeply personal, highly evolved music”; the Independent made Hidden Album of The Week and called it “never less than spellbinding”, and Musician magazine declared Curios “a shining light for British jazz”.
TOM CAWLEY
ςΞ° Tom Cawley is one of the UK’s leading jazz pianists. He has performed worldwide — in major clubs, venues and festivals — with some of the country’s leading artists, most notably Peter Gabriel, with whom he has also recorded two albums and a live DVD. As an artist in his own right he has performed, recorded and broadcast extensively over the last ten years.
Χ¦Χ As well as an award–winning pianist, Cawley is also a composer, bandleader and educator. As a freelance jazz piano player, Tom regularly leads the house band at Ronnie Scott's club, and he is also Professor of jazz piano at the Royal Academy of Music.
JOSHUA BLACKMORE
ςΞ° A high–achieving young player, Joshua began studing at Birmingham Conservatoire and graduated with a 1st from the Royal Accadamy of Music in London.
Χ¦Χ In 2007 Joshua co–founded ‘Troyka’ with Chris Montague and Kit Downes, an ‘exciting new breed’ (Jazzwise Magazine 2012). Last year Troyka was employed as the central rhythm section in a larger ensemble TDE’s, for a Django Bates commission at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. which was recorded live for BBC Radio transmission. Their 2nd album, Moxxy, released June 2012 described by Time Out as “like King Crimson for the iPod generation.
Χ¦Χ Joshua has been a member of the band Aloosh since 2008, composing, recording and gigging in a genre of interesting popular culture. He has been the drummer with Sam Leak’s Aquarium since 2007, album release January 2013. He is the drummer for Floating Points, a hip–hop band led by DJ Sam Shepherd, awarded Best Track at the Giles Peterson World wide Awards and played at Montreux Festival. He has played with Corey Mwamba and Dave Kane since 2002, focusing on purely improvised music. He has just finished a series of concerts, as guest drummer, with the Aurora Orchestra in a commissioned piece by Chris Ellis, a collaboration with UK’s undefeated best break dancer.
Χ¦Χ Joshua plays across diverse styles, “very much the contemporary drummer, drawing on hip–hop and Drum ‘n Bass–type beats as easily as on more conventional jazz rhythms” — Martin Longely, BBC.

ςΞ° Double bass player Sam Burgess is a stalwart of the UK jazz scene. As well as appearing on numerous film soundtracks such as 'Bridget Jones's Diary' and 'Hannibal'. Χ¦Χ Sam’s thumping, pounding, relentlessly driving bass lines have been heard accompanying the likes of Bob James, Billy Kilson, Gary Novak, Joe Lock, Dave Kekowski, Guy Barker, Dave O'Higgins, Pete King, Gareth Williams, Claire Martin, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Tim Whitehead, John Horler, Gwyneth Herbert, John Dankworth, The BBC Big Band and Robbie Williams.
