Escondido — Walking With A Stranger (February 5, 2016) |

Escondido — Walking With A Stranger (February 5, 2016) •≠• Toto album představuje trošku složitý terén: od agresivního noir, přes baladu, překlenutí vzdálenosti z LA do Nashvillu, osamělost, remorkér* mezi mužem a ženou, Death Valley. Dusty desert landscapes. Nashville alt–folk duo Escondido recorded their sophomore album Walking With A Stranger in a home studio and mixed it here in LA. They bring a new batch of cinematic songs back to MBE.

•≠• Escondido, the duo of Jessica Maros and Tyler James, don’t sound like your typical band to come out of Nashville. Given their sound, they would seem more at home coming from Tucson, Austin or even Santa Fe, with a vibe described by the Chicago–Sun Times as “Southwest fantasia.” However, if we’ve learned anything about the pop era it is that music is the universal language, unimpeded by geography.
•≠• That’s not to say that the rarified, country music–saturated essence of Nashville hasn’t gotten into the duo’s blood, as there is a distinctive echo of the glamorous, rhinestone–encrusted, 70s–era country queens present on their sophomore release, Walking with a Stranger. But there are also elements of dreamy psychedelia, driving rock hooks and, of course, the plaintive, high–lonesome atmosphere of dusty desert landscapes. It’s a well~knit package, one that easily makes new fans with every listen. TYLER JAMES
•≠• Tyler James Geertsma (born March 31, 1982) is an American singer/songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee. He is best known for his work as a solo recording artist and as keyboardist in Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
ESCONIDO
•≠• Cold October is about picking yourself up after a break–up. It’s about how hard it is to leave someone you love even though you know it’s for the best. The verses are reminiscent of good times and memories… coming to grips with where it went wrong. But once the chorus hits we lay out the truth.. “The old you still had a foot in the door but the new you is already gone.” I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of this song. Musically speaking, Cold October is a frankenstein of a couple songs. Jess had written a song called Cold October with our friend Leanne… we took that chorus and made it a verse and an old unused song of mine became the new chorus. We ended up re–writing all the lyrics but we kept the title because it’ a good metaphor for both sides. — Tyler James / Escondido •≠• “Try,” the second single out in November, is about the “beauty and hardships of partnerships.” The video captured the essence of the song as Maros and James “gracefully floating beneath the surface of a dark, calm body of water, often intertwined and perfectly in sync with the melodies” and premiered on Interview Magazine. That same month they were a featured “Rising” artist on the music service Tidal.
•≠• Walking With A Stranger is the follow up to 2013s debut The Ghost of Escondido, “…one of the rare alt–country crossover acts with highbrow cred… It’s country but with a cinéaste’s touch…” — Vogue.com “Band of the Week”
•≠• And Garden & Gun Magazine describes “if Clint Eastwood’s Man with No Name stepped into a vintage El Camino and turned on the radio, Escondido would come blaring out of the speakers.” Notes*:
