Review
by Madison Bloom and Jazz Monroe, NOVEMBER 15 2019
♦    Grimes is back with her first album in five years and third for 4AD. Miss Anthropocene features 10 tracks and has a release date of February 21, 2020. There are two versions of “So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth.” The “Art Mix” lasts six minutes, while the “Algorithm Mix,” essentially a radio edit, lasts just under four. “So Heavy” follows “Violence,” another single from the follow~up to 2015’s Art Angels. (The album title was previously styled Miss_ Anthrop0cene.)
♦    Claire Boucher has shared a lengthy message on Instagram detailing the record: “It’s a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change: A psychedelic, space~dwelling demon/ beauty~Queen who relishes the end of the world. She’s composed of Ivory and Oil.
♦    I love Godly personifications of abstract/ horrific concepts (For example, Mars as the Roman God of War) — so I wanted to update the list to include our modern issues.
Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology. The first song ‘we appreciate power’, introduced the pro~AI~propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence.”
♦    Previously released track ‘We Appreciate Power’ will not make it on the standard edition release of the album, but will instead be found on the deluxe digital version.
