Joey DeFrancesco — Trip Mode (November 6, 2015)
Dosáhl úspěchu v jazzovém žánru používat oba původní ‘tonewheel Hammondy’ a nový B–3. Pochází z hudební rodiny a vydal své první album ve věku 16. Docela stíhá: trojnásobně nominován na Grammy Awards. Je 9.–násobným vítězem Down Beat Critics Poll a získal Down Beat Readers Poll pokaždé od roku 2005. Mistr jazzových varhan, trumpetista a zpěvák Joey DeFrancesco swinguje tvrdě a neskutečným tahem přímo vpřed. Následně, Joey pracoval s velikány, jakými byli George Benson, James Moody a Ray Charles. Vyjádřil to po svém: “Different day, different city”. To vám dává dobrý pocit ...

•••• It’s rare for one man to change the face of an instrument, and before he turns forty, but Joey DeFrancesco has done just that. He has been performing since he was a child, following in the footsteps of his jazz–playing father and grandfather. A seasoned musician by his teens, today, DeFrancesco is a Grammy–nominated artist with over 50 recordings as a leader and numerous collaborations with the masters of modern jazz in his legacy, DeFrancesco deservingly takes his place alongside organ greats of the past like Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, and Larry Young. •••• Is it us, or does Joey DeFrancesco just keep getting better and better? The Hammond player’s always been one of the best of his generation — but his recent run of records really has us sitting up and taking notice all over again, and maybe finally ranking Joey with some of our favorite organ jazz giants from years back! This album has the confidence, clarity, and vibrancy that few folks can really bring to the instrument — maybe Don Patterson or Charles Earland back in the day — although we’d hardly paint Joey with the same brush, as he’s got a unique approach that’s definitely all his own, and getting better and better every year. DeFrancesco also plays a bit of trumpet on the record — and those tracks feature additional bass from Mike Boone — who joins Jason Brown on drums and Dan Wilson on guitar. Titles include “Trip Mode”, “Who Shot John”, “Traffic Jam”, “Cuz U No”, “In That Order”, and “On Georgian Bay”. © 1996–2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.
