Description:
• "It's hard to resist the urge to rock out once in awhile. Let's Just Be is proof that even the most smooth-voiced and pop-minded singer-songsters must get their ya-yas out now and again. On some songs, Arthur conjures the early '70s spirit of Mick Jagger while on others he seems to be shooting for Marc Bolan. His most ragged-sounding and strictly rock and roll album to date, the record has a very loosely hewn feel which reaches an apex during the 20 minute (plus) "Lonely Astronaut." That song starts out as a pleasant enough country warble then mutates into a sloppy rave-up before dissolving into a bizarre mantra of the word "I" chanted atop an acoustic guitar and what sounds like a cement mixer, before slipping back into the warble bit. This disc is charming in its own way, and clearly was a blast for all involved — but a tad more editing might have been nice."
Demos:
• In December 2006, 14 new songs (recorded with the Lonely Astronauts) were placed on Joseph's website, available for free download or with a donation. The 14 tracks comprised the original tracklisting for Let's Just Be in this order:
01 "Baby's Got a New Friend" — 5:59
02 "Cockteezzze" — 1:44
03 "Famous Friends Along the Coast" — 5:28
04 "Love" — 6:34
05 "Skull Kiss" — 3:53
06 "Cocaine Feet" — 4:14
07 "Bust Me" — 3:05
08 "Breadhead" — 4:29
09 "Precious One" — 4:27
10 "Take Me Home" — 4:41
11 "Here Come the Spacemen" — 3:49
12 "Let's Just Be" — 2:36
13 "Diamond Ring" — 3:42
14 "The Good Life" — 4:28
• The song "Breadhead" was conceived at the House of Blues side stage in San Diego, California during Arthur's tour for Nuclear Daydream. Near the end of the concert, he began strumming a song, and told the band to play along. A few minutes later, "Breadhead" had been written and played for the first time, and Arthur said it would appear on the next album.
