♠•♠ A new posthumous album from the late Leonard Cohen has been announced. You can listen to ‘The Goal’ now.
♠•♠ The legendary Canadian crooner died in November 2016 after suffering injuries that stemmed from a fall in the middle of the night.
♠•♠ After it was confirmed in 2018 that a posthumous album is in the works, ‘Thanks For The Memories’ will now arrive on November 22.
♠•♠ The record was developed by Cohen’s son Adam and saw him fulfilling his father’s wish to complete the „bare musical sketches“ that he left behind from his final album ‘You Want It Darker’.
♠•♠ In doing so, Adam recruited the likes of Spanish guitarist Javier Mas — who accompanied Leonard on stage for the last eight years of touring
While attending Berlin’s People Festival, Adam also invited a cast of all~star friends to lend their talents to the record. Damien Rice and Leslie Feist provide vocals on the record, while Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire plays bass and Bryce Dessner of The National plays guitar.
♠•♠ Other notable additions on the record include composer Dustin O’Halloran, as well as Berlin choir Cantus Domus and the s t a r g a z e orchestra.
♠•♠ Adam also worked as a producer on his father’s last album, 2016’s ‘You Want It Darker’.
♠•♠ Earlier this year, Cohen’s relationship with his muse Marianne Ihlen was released. Directed by Nick Broomfield, Marianne & Leonard tracks the musician’s relationship with Ihlen, who inspired songs including ‘So Long, Marianne’.

A life’s work revisited through contemporary art
Σ••θ A truly multidisciplinary exhibition combining visual art, virtual reality, installations, performances, music and writing, Leonard Cohen — Une brèche en toute chose / A Crack in Everything offers the public a collection of brand new work commissioned from and created by local and international artists who have been inspired by Leonard Cohen’s style and recurring themes. At the same time, it is a particularly Montreal~centric exhibition that has received outstanding support from the community.
Σ••θ Beyond the works to be created especially for Leonard Cohen — „Une brèche en toute chose / A Crack in Everything“, the exhibition will also include innovative multimedia environments where Cohen’s songs will be covered and performed, as well as a survey of his archival material (writings, drawings and recordings produced over the past half~century).
Σ••θ Six galleries are devoted to the critical celebration, loving tribute and, a year after his passing, quiet commemoration of a vast artistic achievement and inspiring life.
A world~renowned Montréal novelist, poet and singer/songwriter who inspired generations of writers, musicians and artists, Cohen is an extraordinary poet of sorrow and the human condition, giving voice to what it means to be fully alert to the complexities and desires of both body and soul.
Σ••θ Leonard Cohen’s thinking, writing and music are a thing of beauty and despair. For decades, the novelist, poet and singer/songwriter tenaciously supplied the world with melancholy but urgent observations on the state of the human heart. With equal parts gravitas and grace, he teased out a startlingly inventive and singular language, depicting both an exalted spirituality and an earthly sexuality. He set the blunt but brilliant instrument of his famous voicea “velour foghorn” so deep and cavernous or, more recently, his raspy chant~like whispersto beautiful melodies and simple arrangements that belied a great musical intelligence. His interweaving of the sacred and the profane, of mystery and accessibility, was such a compelling combination it became seared into memory.
Σ••θ When we came up with the idea for this exhibition, we went to seek the agreement of Leonard Cohen, who was thrilled with the project and the angle we were proposing. Given his recent death, our exhibition has taken on a new meaning. It has also become a tribute to this global star.

Σ••θ „Písně lásky a nenávisti“ (March 19, 1971) ukázaly Leonarda Cohena z temnější a drsnější stránky než dříve, ale na jeho čtvrtém albu je světlo zpět. Album „New Skin For The Old Ceremony“ bylo uvedeno 11. srpna 1974 v labelu Columbia a ukazuje Cohena jak z romantického, tak z environmentálního hlediska. Umístění v UK Albums: (OCC) #24. Písně jsou uspořádány rozptýleně a producent~spolupracovník John Lissauer přinesl prvky folkové hudby a jazzu. Mezi hlavní zajímavosti patří „Who By Fire“, duet s Janis Ian a „Chelsea Hotel # 2“, kde Cohen hovoří o svém vztahu s Janis Joplin. Robert Christgau dává albu hodnocení A– a píše:
⊆⊇ „Tento zázračně intimní hlas se stal v průběhu let výraznějším a sebevědomějším, aniž by ztratil své okouzlující ploché amatérství. Některé z nových písní jsou méně než zapamatovatelné ale nastavení, které určil John Lissauer, má bizarní pocit „nadprodukce“ Johna Simona na prvním albu Cohena, kterému jsem vždy věřil, že jeho nastudované vulgarity dokonale vyhovovaly“.
Σ••θ Původním obalem pro New Skin for the Old Ceremony byl obrázek z alchymického textu Rosarium filozofophorum. Obraz původně upoutal pozornost veřejnosti v C.G. Jungova eseji „The Psychology of Transference“ (2. vydání, 1966), kde je líčen Jungem tak, aby zobrazoval spojení psychických protikladů ve vědomí osvíceného světce. Chápeš. Chelsea Hotel No. 2
Produced by John Lissauer
Album „New Skin for the Old Ceremony“
1) I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
You were talking so brave and so sweet
Givin’ me head on the unmade bed
While the limousines wait in the street
2)
Those were the reasons, that was New York
We were runnin’ for the money and the flesh
And that was called love for the workers in song
Probably still is for those of them left
3) Yeah, but you got away, didn’t you babe?
You just turned your back on the crowd
When you got away, I never once heard you say
Refr:
I need you
I don’t need you
I need you
I don’t need you
And all of that jivin’ around
4) I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
You were famous, your heart was a legend
You told me again, you preferred handsome men
But for me you would make an exception
5) And clenching your fist for the ones like us
Who are oppressed by the figures of beauty
You fixed yourself, you said “Well nevermind
We are ugly but we have the music”
6) And then you got away didn’t you babe?
You just turned your back on the crowd
When you got away I never once heard you say
Refr:
I need you
I don’t need you
I need you
I don’t need you
And all of that jivin’ around
7) I don’t mean to suggest
That I loved you the best
I can’t keep track of each fallen robin
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
That’s all, I don’t think of you that often
