Tommy Emmanuel and David Grisman had admired each other’s music for years but their paths had never crossed. That changed in January, 2014 when their mutual friend, the brilliant Scottish guitarist Martin Taylor, invited David to sit in at his concert with the world~renowned, Tommy Emmanuel. Going forward to 2016, Tommy invited David to participate in a recording project of his in Nashville, whereupon he asked him to teach him some “Dawg” tunes. Within the hour, they had recorded five of David’s tunes and the seeds of this recording were sown. An exuberant meeting of the musical minds and souls, Pickin’, with 10 Dawg compositions is just the beginning of what promises to be an important, longawaited and historic musical friendship.

Pickin’ reflects on both Tommy and David’s signature classical, Americana, folk, and roots stylings, but it also artfully merges jazz rhythms, jamming, and unpredictability in the mix.
