♠⊄♣ After what felt like an especially long winter it’s comforting to know that warmer weather is just around the corner, and I can’t imagine a better time of the year to discover a track like “First Day Out,” the lead single off Kibby’s upcoming album Blabracadabra. It’s been nice being able to spend a little bit of time with the record, a stirring collection of bedroom pop infused with the haze of AM radio classics, and “First Day Out” is all of those things and so much more. Bolstered by shuffling rhythms and weary vocal lines, the track carries a gentle and thoughtful spirit throughout its short run~time, evoking a sense of beauty and longing with each strum of the guitar. For the music video, which we’re premiering below, Sam Kahar pieced together bits and pieces of old videos, perfectly mirroring the track’s ruminative energy.
